Who are you when we are all alone with . . .
· No external recognition or validation
· No praise or rejection
· No job title to ride on or stage to perform from
· No fancy material possessions to project an image
· No young children or dependents to devote yourself to
Who would you be if you found yourself standing alone with (or without) everyone watching . . .?
This question might seem unsettling at first because so much of our identity is shaped by external factors. The more executives I coach, the more I realise how much executives define ourselves by our achievements, relationships, possessions and the perception of the people around them (the past me included)
Strip all of that away for a moment, and you’re left with something raw and honest: your true self.
📩 Would you still recognize yourself without the roles you play or the accolades you chase?
📩 If you found yourself without these, would you feel content or relieved or even released?!
📩 Or would you feel lost or be overwhelmed by a sense of unfamiliarity with your real self or even a sense of failure?
The answer to these questions depend on how deeply you’ve cultivated a sense of inner purpose and self-worth.
True fulfilment comes from within—it’s rooted in your values, passions, impact and the way we interact with ourselves and others, not so much in external markers of success.
So this first week of 2025 is a good time to check in with yourself and ask yourself the following questions:
📌 Do I know who I really am?
📌 What will an introduction of me be like, if all my external identifiers were stripped away?
If you struggle to answer these questions, consider it an invitation to reconnect with yourself in 2025, to recap your values, define your passion and priorities, and realign with what truly matters to you.
After all, the relationship you have with yourself should set the foundation for everything you build in your life in 2025 and beyond.
