ANTARCTICA 2025 ❄️🌍 – DAY 5 – NEKO HARBOUR, PARADISE BAY & THE POLAR PLUNGE! 🥶

“Jobs fill your pocket, but adventures fill your soul.” – Jamie Lyn Beatty

So lets skip the order of the day and dive right into the Polar Plunge!

Some moments in life challenge you, push your limits, and then leave you forever changed.

The Antarctic Polar Plunge is one of them!

Did we actually take this plunge of a lifetime?

The Antarctic Polar Plunge isn’t just a jump – it’s an extreme test of courage, where you willingly dive from the ship, into the near freezing waters of the Antarctic Ocean at -2 to 0°C (28-32°F)

The shock to the body is instant, but so is the adrenaline

The instructions were clear: When our group was called, we had to head to Base Camp (Deck 3), dressed in swimsuits and bathrobes, ready to face the icy unknown.

We were in the Green Group

And while we weren’t sure if we’d actually do it, we weren’t going to miss watching it happen in real time so we got ready!

As we got closer, the questions started buzzing louder in my mind:
❄️ What if my body goes into shock?
❄️ Is my 12-year-old son too young for this?
❄️ Would it be irresponsible of me as a parent?
❄️ What if something goes wrong?

I had grilled the ship doctor earlier that morning, yet my mind still raced!

But standing there, watching others take the plunge, different thoughts emerged:

🧊 What if it’s completely safe, and I cause us to miss the experience of a lifetime?

🧊 What if we don’t do it and I feel regret, knowing that we cant just come back to try it another day?

🧊 What if not doing it means denying my son his dream?

He had been asking (even pleading) to do it since it was announced.

And in that moment, as we stood in line, chatting with fellow adventurers, watching their post-jump reactions, I thought . . . ‘I had asked all the questions and done my ‘due diligence’ . .

‘SO WHY NOT’?

We did it!!!!

We plunged!!

And it was exhilarating and freezing!!!

We ran to the hot tub afterwards 😄

Here is what we learnt from the Antarctic Polar Plunge:

🌊 Fear and excitement often go hand in hand. The key is deciding which one you’ll listen to.

🌊 Sometimes, the best decisions are made in the moment. Overthinking can talk you out of incredible experiences.

🌊 Courage isn’t about eliminating fear—it’s about taking the leap despite it.

🌊 Children often teach us life lessons. My son’s courage and determination in the face of the unknown reminded me of the power of a fearless mindset.

🌊 You don’t regret the adventures you take – only the ones you don’t.

This wasn’t just a plunge into icy waters—it was a plunge into the unknown, into adventure, into a moment that we’ll remember for a lifetime.

A mother and son shared experience like no other!

I am so glad we did it!

Would you have taken the plunge and why / why not? 🌊❄️
