Today? Paradise!
Fuelled by a sumptuous breakfast, we boarded the zodiacs to Neko Harbour -home to yet another thriving penguin colony.
Our plan was to hike up the mountain.
We only made it halfway, before being completely overwhelmed by the sheer beauty of the landscape.
The atmosphere felt almost sacred
📍Neko Harbour, discovered by Belgian explorer Adrien de Gerlache in the early 20th century, sits on the west coast of Graham Land
Standing there, surrounded by ice and wildlife, it was impossible not to feel connected to something far greater than ourselves
The scenery was spectacular! The adventure continued!
After lunch, we were back on the zodiacs, cruising through Paradise Bay. The name couldn’t be more fitting—icebergs of diverse shapes and sizes majestically floated around us. It was pure magic!
Along the way, we spotted seals lounging, completely unfazed by our presence
The evening brought another fascinating experience – a presentation on whale conservation and AI-driven research. We were encouraged to photograph any whales we spotted and submit the images
Scientists would then use AI to analyse migration patterns
They had utilised such research in the past to identify whale traffic and work with IATO to reroute vessels to avoid them sailing into whale routes
It’s incredible how every adventurer can contribute to wildlife conservation with such simple yet meaningful actions!
We spent the evening lounging in our penguin suits that we had brought along, to the delight of fellow adventurers, playing games, spotting more wildlife, and soaking in the Antarctic magic.
A surprise awaited us back at our cabin – our Drake Passage Expedition Certificates! A well-earned reward for conquering that turbulent crossing!
In the night, we sailed into Lemaire Channel, the most famous channel of Antarctica, between Kyiv Peninsula and Booth Island, nicknamed ‘Kodak Gap’
The sunlight here had a Midas touch! Everything turned to GOLD!
5 days to go… but already a lifetime of memories!
