ANTARCTICA 2025 ❄️🌍 | Day 9 – Crossing the Drake Passage 2 (Return Journey)

As we sail into our final day, I find myself wishing for more time, but also being filled with deep gratitude for this extraordinary experience.

The real world awaits, and I carry with me the memories, the lessons, and the reminder that every great journey changes you. It broadens your perspective and deepens your appreciation of life.

Awesome food, lots of team trivia today and an interesting lecture on climate change of the Antartica – the past, the present and the future, as well as a video recap of our Antarctica expedition.

As I returned to my cabin, I found my mind wandering.

I recalled occasions where the SH Vega crew navigated a particularly challenging explorer we had onboard.

Day after day, they treated her with dignity, empathy, and professionalism, no matter how difficult she became.

They:
🎯 made sure she felt seen, heard and helped
🎯 maintained clear, respectful boundaries and
🎯 protected the joy of the group without demeaning her

It was an immersion in customer service, grace under pressure, and emotional intelligence.

Kudos to the SH Vega team!

Nevertheless I couldn’t help wondering how much more incredible her experience would have been if she had chosen to show up differently . . . because at the end of the day, it’s not just the journey – it’s the people you share it with, that make it unforgettable.

I couldn’t help but reflect on my own journey too . . . and I invite you to reflect on yours.

Is there any lingering negativity – big or small – that may be robbing you of the sail of a lifetime?

Or of the chance to truly connect with others and make life’s moments count?

Here are few simple tips to get more from life’s journey which I am currently embracing:

⛴️ Pause to notice beauty – even in the most unlikely places.

⛴️ Practice self-awareness – how you show up impacts everyone around you.

⛴️ Show appreciation for the big and small things

⛴️ Ask better questions – they often provide better insights and deeper reflection.

⛴️ Assume positive intent if you don’t have all the information and give people a chance to explain themselves, especially when it’s a first time incident.

⛴️ Celebrate progress, not just perfection – growth is rarely linear.

⛴️ Be the calm in the storm if you can

⛴️ Extend grace, especially when others can’t – it’s a gift for all parties.

⛴️ Let go of what doesn’t serve your wellbeing

We dock in Ushuaia, Argentina 🇦🇷 this evening but our final day on board is tomorrow.

Watch out for the final post – Day 10
