Our journey back to Ushuaia, Argentina 🇦🇷 has begun, and once again, we are crossing the legendary Drake Passage
However this time, it feels different
The waves are still present, the winds still whisper their challenges, but experience has shifted our perspective
Maybe it’s the slightly calmer conditions
Maybe it is the benefit of preparation – seasickness patches and wristbands, and the knowledge that we’ve done this before
Or maybe it’s simply the realization that growth comes from facing something difficult twice and handling it better the second time
Discovery:
In the afternoon, we honoured the invitation to visit the Captain’s Bridge, where we learned about the ship’s intricate architecture, the advanced technology keeping us safe, and the seamless teamwork required to navigate this vast, unpredictable ocean
Our highly experienced captain, also shared insights into the ship’s sustainability efforts; delivering on net-zero carbon emissions and ensuring no waste is discharged into the pristine Antarctic waters – A powerful reminder that true leadership extends towards taking responsibility for the planet we live in; it includes an obligation to preserve the environment that we rely on daily
My son and I rounded off our afternoon with a scavenger hunt – exploring the ship in detail and checking off every challenge in our Antarctica workbook
A Farewell to Remember:
The highlight of the evening was the Captain’s Farewell Reception
When the crew lined up to say their formal Thank Yous and Goodbyes, Tina Turner’s iconic song ‘Simply the Best’  played – a perfect tribute to a team that went above and beyond
We closed the night with trivia and team games, bonding over shared laughter and competition – one last distraction from the reality that this adventure is coming to an end. . .
More leadership and life nuggets:
🌍Perspective shifts everything – The same journey feels different when we approach it with knowledge, preparedness, experience, and confidence
🌍 Leadership iresponsibility – True leaders take ownership beyond their immediate roles, to include caring for the environment and those that their actions will impact
🌍 Teamwork is critical  – Just like navigating a ship through unpredictable waters, great leadership relies on seamless collaboration
🌍 Memories are shaped by people, not just places – the professionalism of the crew and the kindness and camaraderie of other explorers enhanced the value of our experience
🌍 The best experiences are shared – Whether through a scavenger hunt or team trivia, connection makes moments more meaningful
🌍 Farewells are a part of every journey – Every great adventure must end, but the impact and memories can stay with us for as long as we allow
Thankfully, It’s not over yet.
Stay tuned for Day 9 as we sail on . .
